Did you know that the first few weeks back at school / pre-school / nursery lead to a peak of hospital admissions in asthmatic children? If your child is asthmatic and has a preventer please make sure they use it in the few weeks preceding term to avoid exacerbations.

Meningitis W

There has been a rise of Meningitis W cases affecting teenagers. As a result this year we will be offering vaccines if you have an 18th birthday between the 1st Spetember 2014 and 31st August 2015 (Year 13) or will be starting university for the first time up to the age of 25 years. Those in year 13 will be invited when vaccine stocks arrive. If you are starting university this summer please contact the surgery as we have a small advanced supply for this group.

Meningitis B

Starting on the 1 September 2015 all infants born on or after the 1 May 2015 will be eligible for the meningococcal B vaccine which will be administered together with the other primary immunisations at 2 months, 4 months and 12 months.

Unfortunately we can't give the Meningitis B vaccine if your child was born before the 1st May 2015. This would need to be accessed via a private provider e.g. CitiDoc, Nomad or STA travel clinics.

Please ensure your child is given Paracetamol 30 minutes before the injection is given. See links for more information.
